The Best Chicken Coop Kit
If you are looking to assemble a backyard chicken coop quickly, the LAZY BUDDY Chicken Coop is, in our opinion, the best chicken coop kit available on Amazon.
It has 4 egg boxes which can be accessed from outside of the chicken coop.
It comes with a small chicken run but you can leave that off if you want.
If you are planning on free-ranging your chickens then it could probably hold up to 6 chickens comfortably.
However, if you are going to keep them in the attached run, it’s probably better to not keep more than 4 chickens.
This coop also comes with a 1 year warranty.
With all these features, this is our choice for best chicken coop kit.
Best Small Chicken Coop Kit
If you want a smaller, cheaper chicken coop kit, this POTBY 41″ Chicken Coop is a good choice.
It has 2 egg boxes that can be accessed from outside of the coop.
Since it is smaller than the previous coop, it can probably only hold 3 to 4 chickens.
But if that’s all you need then this is our choice for best small chicken coop kit.
Best Free Backyard Chicken Coop Plans
If you are more of a do-it-yourself type of person, this is a great coop for you.
We built this backyard chicken coop back in 2013 and it is still being used today.
We wanted to build a coop that was simple, easy, and straightforward.
We used the following instructions to build it.
Here it is right after it was finished.
After this, we painted it red, put roofing material on it, and moved it.
We surrounded the coop with the best poultry netting we could buy to keep our chickens contained and predators out.
And we could move the poultry netting around the coop in different areas to graze our chickens in different spots.
In the picture above, we put the chickens on our future wood chip vegetable garden area so they could fertilize it for us before we made a garden out of it.
If you want to build your own coop, this is the best free chicken coop plans in our opinion.
Best Chicken Tractor
If you interested in building a chicken tractor instead of a coop, check out our instructions on How to Build a Joel Salatin Style Chicken Tractor.
I personally built this chicken tractor and it has worked great.
A chicken tractor is different than a traditional coop in that the chickens are fully contained inside of it and you move it so they can forage in a new spot every day.
Chicken tractors are more commonly used when raising pastured broilers but the idea could be adapted for layers as well.
If you want to build a chicken tractor for broilers, this is the best chicken tractor for the job in my opinion.
Best Mobile Chicken Coop
If you want to build a mobile chicken coop then I highly recommend checking out our article about our Joel Salatin Style Eggmobile Mobile Chicken Coop.
I use this mobile chicken coop on my farm to move my hens around pastures.
Once they are done in one spot, I simply hook up to it and move it to a new spot.
If you are wanting to build your own mobile chicken coop for pastured layers, this is a great place to start.
Best Chicken Coop Accessories
Best Chicken Coop Wheels
Are you looking for a portable chicken coop? These wheels can be attached to chicken coops or chicken tractors so they can be move around.
These obviously work better when the coop isn’t heavy so keep that in mind when buying these.
Best Chicken Coop Egg Boxes
If you want really nice egg boxes then I highly recommend these Brower Poultry Nests.
I have these in my mobile chicken coop and they work great.
The ones above have 10 egg boxes but if you follow the link to Amazon you’ll be able to select less egg boxes or more if you need them.
