Best Soil Blocker

If you are planning on starting seeds yourself, using a soil blocker will make your life a lot easier. And the Ladbrooke Mini 4 is one of the best.

I personally own a soil blocker like this and love it. It’s the best way to start seeds in my opinion.

The Ladbrooke makes up to 4 soil blocks that are 2 inches in diameter. It even puts a divot in the top to place your seed in.

You can also purchase different size inserts and swap them out to make even smaller soil blocks.

Best Commercial Soil Blocker

This Ladbrooke Multi 35 is our favorite commercial soil blocker.

It makes up to 35 blocks that are 1 – 1/8″ in diameter. With blocks this size, you can fit 105 blocks in a 10″ x 20″ tray.

This thing is great if you are gardening on a large scale and are needing to start lots of seeds.

Best Seed Tray

The best way to use a soil blocker is with seed trays. And these Handy Pantry trays our great for the price.

These trays do not have holes in the bottom so you will need to make some if you need them. They do, however, have channels in the bottom so the soil blocks don’t have to sit in water.

And because they don’t have holes in the bottom, you don’t have to worry about water dripping on your floor if you use them inside.

Best Heavy Duty Seed Tray

A lot of seed trays are flimsy because they are made of thin plastic. That may be ok depending on how you plan on using them.

However, if you are looking for more durable seed trays that will last you a lot longer, these Bootstrap Farmer 1020 trays are really good.

They are made from thicker plastic and can hold up to 35 lbs without bending.

And because of this, they will last you a lot longer than other flimsy trays that may break after multiple uses.

How to Use a Soil Blocker

Soil Blocks I Made With Seed Trays

To use a soil blocker, simply push it into your potting soil until the soil packs into the blocker very tightly.

Then, place the soil blocker in the tray or on the surface you want to create your blocks on and pull the trigger.

If your soil is mixed correctly, the blocks will come out smoothly.

If your potting soil is too wet, they may stick to the soil blocker. If the soil is too dry, the blocks will crumble.

After your blocks are made, you are ready to plant your seeds in the divot on top of the block.
